We have used just a pillow in the past, and that was never enough, so we decided to upgrade our play, and this wedge pillow looked like the right choice for us. Once deployed, it is perfectly firm (again...😎) and is a great size for our play. The cover is soft and should be easy to clean. It fits pretty tightly, so I am not concerned about it sliding across the pillow, and its texture will prevent it sliding across the bed. The zipper enclosure is sturdy and well covered, so I do not worry about it scratching us as we play. You may need to find a special place to store it when not in use, as it is too tall to fit under our bed.
